This is amazing! Spanglish is growing a little bit more by the day and we can see a great team is in the making.
I invite you all to see the great work that our new members are producing and share your thoughts with all of us. We have received many letters telling us how we are fulfilling a need that we all know we have, the importance of communicating with others who want to share common interests, ideas and hopes.
These are difficult times, I need not remind anyone of that, and usually the arts and crafts are sometimes considered non-essentials, we beg to differ! To nurture our spirit and our sensibility through the work of our own hands is not only a sure way to fend off any negative thoughts that might be floating around but also turns our feelings into something truly positive that help us in more ways than one.
One of those is surely economical, because no matter how much we love what we do, we need to help balance our budget, pay for materials etc. And that is also the objective of this group. Pulling our strengths together to make ourselves more visible in a crowded world. And, yes, the final and most important thing is that, if we really put our love and care in our work, this love will spread around to others, and that is what it is all about.
Like Charles Dickens once wrote: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way."

I was just reminicing with my Dad, who is a fine artist, yesterday about the recession in the early 80's. I was a tad bit too young to remember, but at that time when people were loosing their jobs, the economy was in a dark shadow and people feared for the future, something miraculous happened...craft fairs and art shows started popping up on every corner... and they were selling! People who "normally" had jobs in a corner office were forced out from behind their desks due to hard economic times and think of new solutions in order to feed their families. So they went back to basics and created cottage industries where they spent their nights crocheting hats and pouring candles for weekend shows. My parents were fore-runners in the art corner of these shows and they set up shop in the only way they knew how. My mom being an immigrant from Ecuador was used to hard economic times and rolled with the punches, pulling up her sleeves and creating beautiful art to sell. This market really was the only place where she as truly valued and accepted. Her rough accent became a selling point and not a detriment. She was valued and honored as an artist and not looked at as someone that "needed to fit in". All the while us three kids would have a set up of blankets and pillows underneath the display tables where we would play and guess which disembodied feet from our limited under-the-table view would buy a sculpture. It was due to these brave pioneers at these arts and crafts fairs that we now how Pro Panel wall displays and EZ Up show tents. And although the "every corner craft fairs" have been long-gone, I see a resurgence in the arts and crafts movement utilizing what we have available: the internet. I applaud you all for pulling up your sleeves and making this happen. Do not give up:)
