My Town: Jacksonville Florida

For Almost 20 years, Jacksonville Fl has been my home. I did not know much about it at all when I moved here, only that it was a huge city. Being a native New Yorker, it took some getting used to, but I have grown to love it here. With approximately 850,000 residents, it ranks as the 14 th largest city in the US ,and covers 841 square miles . It is a big city with a small town feel. Being here on my own at first, I met some of the most hospitable and nice people, and very down to earth.

I am also happy to say that Jacksonville has a growing Latin community, from Mexican, Colombian, to Puerto Rican and many others! The diversity is great. We even have our own Puerto Rican Day parade!

There is something for almost everyone, whether, it's a quiet day fishing or riding horses in the country, to museums, art fairs, to Country, jazz and rock festivals.

My favorite thing is definitely the beach, and just enjoying the natural beauty of North Florida. There are many nature parks and trails. One of my favorite places is called Huegenot Memorial Park, or as the locals call it: the Jettys. It sits across from Mayport Naval Station, and is a great beach, as well as campground. We spend as much time as we can here.

So if you are ever in Florida, don't forget to stop by and check out the River City. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for sharing! As much as I've traveled to Southern Florida, I've yet to stop at Jacksonville. Guess I'll have to plan a trip some time :)

Createev1, thanks for the trip through your always takes us native New Yorkers time to get use to places but in the end we give in. Like the idea of a Puerto Rican Day Parade...

I have never been to Florida, or the east coast for that matter. However, this blog post makes me want to visit this area when I get the chance. My hubby has relatives in Florida, so Jacksonville will be one of the places that we visit when we finally get the chance. :)
